We’re hiring a founding Principal AI Research Scientist for NEST (Open Earth Foundation —openearth.org—, with IIASA, Imperial, CEU & the Active Inference Institute, supported by Schmidt Sciences) to define an architecture for reasoning across nested scales — coherent world models and principled uncertainty, applied to multi-scale energy transitions.
This is a role for someone deep in probabilistic programming and Bayesian modeling — the work is about how intelligent systems reason and represent world models, not applied LLMs. Fit signals: probabilistic programming, world models, scientific ML, active inference, complex adaptive systems.
Remote (CET / US-Pacific overlap), 3-year, grant-funded. PhD in AI/ML with real depth in probabilistic reasoning expected; climate background welcome but not required. Compensation $80–130k USD and negotiable.
