New Contributor to PyMC

Hello all, I’m Moazzam Shahzazd, a sophomore studying Computer Science, and I’m trying to contribute to PyMC. I’ve already opened a PR (#7979). In summary, what began as an attempt to silence a UserWarning evolved into realising that our import of the ArviZ library needed to be changed to ArviZ-Base. I only changed the import of basic helper functions like dict_to_dataset and rcParams in pymc/backends/arviz.py and pymc/smc/sampling.py. I’m waiting for feedback on that PR and would really appreciate some guidance for that.

I’m also interested in being part of GSoC’26, and as a beginner, I’ll be moving to pymc-examples next. The purpose of this message is to convey my interest in contributing to this library. Looking forward to your feedback.

Regards,
Moazzam Shahazad

Welcome, Mozzam. It looks like your PR has been approved. I will see about getting it merged.

As far as GSoC 2026 is concerned, just stay tuned to the Discourse–we will announce RFPs for that here sometime early in the new year.

Hello! Funnily enough, the PR got approved just when I had sent this message on Discourse. Unfortunately, some CI tests were failing. I just pushed some changes. Hope they fix it.

I’ll study more of the codebase. I’m interested in the new dims module and am eyeing #7874, but am nowhere near tackling it. Appreciate your help.
